'Free from' and 'Low in' have become selling points – high potential
Consumers want less rather than more, and they are not just talking about the price. When it comes to the food, natural ingredients and total transparency in terms of what goes into the recipes are becoming the ideal for today’s consumers. Fewer additives, more naturalness: the 'new freedom' is what people want. Claims such as 'free from' and 'low in' have become key selling points, targeted mainly at health-conscious consumers who select foods and drinks with care because a healthy diet is important to them, or because they need to avoid certain ingredients due to food intolerances.
With every sip:prebiotic extras for a healthy treat
Adequate hydration is a key requirement for the body's vital functions and for physical well-being. More and more often, consumers are prioritising health considerations like this when choosing what they drink – alongside the fact that the products need to taste good too. Beverages containing prebiotic fibres have the benefit of combining all the requisite criteria. They taste great, they provide hydration, and they are especially healthy because they stimulate the growth and activity of probiotic bacteria strains that are important for digestion and build up intestinal microflora.

Square, convenient, smart: QR codes - added value on the supermarket shelf
Know more, be better informed and shop smarter: the food industry is discovering the square matrix of the Quick Response codes (QR codes). Using a two-dimensional code consisting of black and white fields that are printed on packages and can be scanned with a smartphone, consumers are able to directly access digitally stored product information and brand messages via the mobile internet. Consumers can even use QR codes to find out about promotions and competitions, straight from the supermarket shelf.
QR codes not only communicate product information, they are also new marketing instruments.
